Entry Requirements

When applying to study a bachelor, master or PhD in an Italian university, there are several entry requirements that you need to keep in mind.

Bachelor Studies : In order to meet entry requirements for a bachelor’s degree at an Italian university, you must successfully have completed upper secondary studies, have a valid school certificate and qualify for higher education studies in your home country. Keep in mind you are requested to prove your level of knowledge of Italian.

Master Studies : To study a master’s degree at an Italian university, you will need to have a relevant bachelor or equivalent degree diploma. As part of the entry requirements, you you will need to submit the following when applying for the program of your choice:

  • Identity document
  • Academic transcript of your previous studies
  • University application form
  • Letter of recommendation
  • Personal Statement
  • Language proficiency (English or Italian, depending on the program)

PhD Studies : To meet entry requirements for a PhD at an Italian university. you need a relevant diploma or master degree program. Some Italian universities also required for applicants to present their research proposal.

Living Cost

Italians are known to be welcoming, open people. You will make local friends quickly. And they will teach you that eating out and enjoying high-quality, healthy food are fundamental to la dolce vita (“the sweet life”) for every Italian. English is not widely spoken outside the academic context, you will be benefited if you have learnt some Italian before or during your stay. Accommodation Option and Cost

Italy is a budget-friendly study destination in Europe. While the cost of accommodation and living can be high in large cities like Rome or Milan, smaller cities are much cheaper. Larger universities usually offer support in finding accommodation; with luck you might get a place in a cheap student home.

Application Cost

VFS SERVICE CHARGE In addition to the Visa Fees, applicant requires to pay the VFS Service Charge ( inclusive of Goods & Service Tax –SGST @9% and CGST@9%), of INR 496.( Payable in Cash/Online/Debit/Credit ) A convenience fee of an amount INR 166/- shall be payable towards availability of multiple payment options-Debit and Credit card, Demand Draft in addition of cash

Note: Visa fee and service charges are not refunded if your application is refused by the Embassy of Italy, or if you withdraw you application while it is under processing at the Embassy of Italy, New Delhi.

Application Procedure

The Demand Draft for visa fee must be favoring ‘VFS GLOBAL SERVICES PRIVATE LIMITED’ and payable at city wherein you lodge your application. One Banking Instrument will be accepted per applicant. Alternatively applicants applying at VFS Delhi Jaipur, Chandigarh and Jalandhar have the option to pay visa fees in cash/Debit/Credit card also for which Convenience charges of INR 166/- ( inclusive of Goods and Service Tax –SGST @9% and CGST@9%) per application would be applicable.

  • Contact your local Italian embassy or consulate
  • Determine if you are from a country that is part of the Schengen area
  • Obtain a tourist visa application from your Italian consulate, or from Schengen Visa services (online at www.schengenvisa.cc)
  • Complete the application for a tourist visa for Italy
  • Gather the required documentation
  • Submit the completed application to your Italian consulate with the necessary documentation
  • Provide the necessary fees for your application, which may vary according to the country in which you are applying

Visa Requirements

Italy is a party to the Schengen Agreement. Please visit the Embassy of Italy’s website for the most current visa information. Passports should have at least six months remaining validity beyond your departure date. U.S. citizens may enter Italy for up to 90 days for tourist or business purposes without a visa.
